Renting In Singapore

It's advisable to start your desk research months in advance - looking at the areas and budgets etc. Start actively looking for your new home about two/three months prior to your intended move-in date. A house-hunt is unpredictable and you will occasionally find time-consuming hurdles in your path. If you find somewhere you really like too far in advance, landlords may be reluctant to wait. Someone else will rent the property before you are able to sign.

Budget

How much will you allocate for your housing in Singapore? Is it a personal lease or is your company paying? How long will  your lease be? If possible, give yourself flexibility in terms of rental budget, so you can be responsive to the different options you will find in the market.

Location

It's very important and will strongly influence long-term satisfaction for you and your family.  Take into consideration where you work, where your spouse works and where will your kids study. As much as possible, locate conveniently for all of these places. Study the excellent Singapore public transport system as part of your search. MRT station location can be very important.

Facilities

This is mainly aimed at condo residents - as quality of facilities can vary. However, those looking at houses should also check out the territory and pool availability. Do you like sport, socialising with friends at the BBQ pits or pool? A gym? Are the facilities in good condition and within easy reach? What about kids play areas? Different people want different combinations of the above - think it through as part of your search.

Amenities

MRT, bus stops, supermarkets, bars, restaurants etc. How convenient are they?
